The Ohio River, which serves somewhere around 10% of the US Population, has reportedly become contaminated with several chemicals due to chemicals from the East Palestine train derailment.
As early as February 8th, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice had already admitted that some of the toxins from the derailed train cars had spilled into the Ohio River before the explosion.
“There were chemicals that went into the Ohio River, and immediately the people of Weirton acted and acted promptly and everything to basically shut down and transfer over to an alternate supply source for their water,” Justice said during a briefing at the State Capitol.
In a memo, Cincinnati city manager Sheryl Long said that low levels of butyl acrylate were detected in samples of the Ohio River. “Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) is actively monitoring the situation, and stands continuously ready to protect our drinking water quality,” the city manager’s memo reads.
This comes as officials are now saying there were more toxic chemicals on a train that derailed in Ohio than initially reported. A list of the cars involved in the derailment and the products they were carrying released by Norfolk Southern reveal several more toxic chemicals released into the air and soil following the crash.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sent a letter to Norfolk Southern stating that ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, ethylhexyl acrylate and isobutylene were also in the rail cars that were derailed, breached and/or on fire.
Some 700 miles away in Indiana, The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility said they are now monitoring their water intake in Indiana.
As we reported earlier in the week, the toxic 50-car train derailment near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border in East Palestine, Ohio and the so-called “controlled explosions” which have released toxic gasses into the air has been largely ignored by the mainstream media.
“We basically nuked a town with chemicals so we could get a railroad open,” said Sil Caggiano, a hazardous materials specialist.
Some in Congress Demanding Answers!
Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Republican Congresswoman representing Georgia’s 14th District tweeted: “East Palestine, Ohio is undergoing an ecological disaster bc authorities blew up the train derailment cars carrying hazardous chemicals and press are being arrested for trying to tell the story”.
Senator JD Vance (R-OH) issued a statement on Monday, vowing to get to the bottom of the train derailment and chemical burn that took place in East Palestine, Ohio.
“Like every Ohioan,” Vance wrote, “I’m horrified by the Norfolk Southern train crash in East Palestine and the images we’ve seen coming from Northeast Ohio. One week ago, local and state officials determined that to avoid a catastrophic explosion a controlled release of vinyl chloride would take place. This release is the source of the frightening plumes of black smoke that have made their way around social media. While those plumes of smoke are now gone, many questions remain.”

So far, we have been told that air and drinking water tests performed by the state and federal Environmental Protection Agencies, the Ohio National Guard, and Norfolk Southern have been encouraging. We continue to monitor environmental reports from multiple agencies about the quality of the air and water in the region. I have heard alarming anecdotes about contaminated waterways and effects on wildlife. I encourage anyone with credible reports of environmental harms to contact my office. In the meantime, we will continue to engage with the relevant agencies and monitor the situation in the region.”
