Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced the news on laying of foundation stone for Defence Research & Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Defence Technology & Test Centre (DTTC) and BrahMos Manufacturing Centre.
The foundation stone of the centres were laid in Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh state on 26 December.
DTTC, which will be spread across an area of some 22 acres, is aimed at accelerating the growth of defence and aerospace manufacturing clusters in Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UP DIC).
It will comprise six subcentres, namely Deep-Tech Innovation & Startup Incubation Centre, Skill Development Centre, Testing & Evaluation Centre, Design & Simulation Centre and Centre for Industry 4.0/Digital Manufacturing and a Business Development Centre.
Announced by BrahMos Aerospace, the BrahMos Manufacturing Centre will serve as an advanced facility.
Spread across 200 acres, the centre will produce the new BRAHMOS-Next Generation (NG) variant.
With completion expected to take place within the next two to three years, production of the NG variant BrahMos missiles will be executed at a rate of 80-100 missiles per annum.

According to Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the DTTC centre will provide the technological base to develop defence products in Amausi region of Uttar Pradesh.
He added that the centre is expected to generate direct and indirect employment in the defence and aerospace manufacturing fields.
BrahMos is a joint venture between the DRDO and Russia’s NPOM to develop next-generation supersonic missiles for the Indian defence forces.
Minister Rajnath Singh said that the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system reflects the technical cooperation between India and Russia.
He added: “We have never been an aggressor, but are ready to defend our people against any nation with hostile intentions”.
MoD noted that the DTTC centre is being set up to execute the MoU signed between Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority and DRDO during DefExpo-2020.
